My parents have taught me many important lessons to shape me into the person I am today. Among these lessons are: always say thank you, be appreciative of what you have, working hard pays off, etc. Most of these lessons were obtained fairly easily, but one that I particularly had a difficult time perceiving was how to save money. In the world we live in today, it is quite easy to lose sight of things that truly matter. We take much of life for granted and fail to appreciate the amazing benefits that it has to offer. We walk through the rose garden without stopping to smell the roses. We have a six hour layover in a cool city and don’t go out to experience it. We go to buffets without trying everything! I, for one, am guilty of all of those things. In fact, until recently, I did not realize the beauty that lies within the city I live in. Through the words of Bob Marley, I would like to ask you to, “Open your eyes and look within. Are you satisfied with the life you’re living?” If you are not, be aware that you are not alone. According to a survey held by Harrisin Interactive, only one third of people in the U.S. are happy with their lives. The numbers may be overwhelming but it is not a surprise to me because I was one of those individuals myself. The journey toward contentment is different for everyone. Some will need a life-changing transformation to be pleased and others simply need a little motivation. But of all the changes a person can make, conforming to a healthy lifestyle is (in my opinion) the most effective way to achieve inner satisfaction.
